Tension In Delta As Gunmen kill Community Leader, Set Corpse On Fire

Tension has gripped the Obodougwa-Ogume community in Ndokwa West Local Government Area, Delta State, after the gruesome murder of Mr. Anselm Oyibo, a respected community leader and former Chairman of the Community Development Committee.

Reports indicate that Oyibo was brutally macheted to death and subsequently set ablaze along with his motorcycle by unknown assailants. His remains were discovered at Obodougwa Ogume Junction along Kwale-Obiaruku Road on Wednesday.

According to local residents, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the incident, Oyibo left his Kwale residence around 11:30 pm on Sunday after receiving a phone call and never returned home.

One resident recounted, “The deceased suddenly woke up from his bed just before midnight, saying he was going out. He started his motorcycle, brought out his phone, and began answering a call. Since he was married to two wives, it was assumed he was going to visit his second wife. The next morning, when he didn’t return, his second wife was contacted, and she confirmed he hadn’t spent the night at her place.”

Efforts to reach Oyibo by phone were initially met with ringing, but the line soon became unreachable. Later, the community received information that a man had been killed and burned along with his motorcycle at the junction.

Confirmation of Oyibo’s identity came shortly thereafter, revealing that he had been attacked with machetes before being set ablaze. His body has since been taken to the mortuary.

The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident, stating, “Yes, efforts are ongoing to unravel the circumstances that led to his death.”

The community remains in a state of shock and mourning as authorities continue their investigation into the tragic event.
