ICPC, China’s Xinhua Agency Explore Media Partnership to Strengthen Anti-Corruption Fight

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) is exploring a strategic media partnership with China’s state-owned Xinhua News Agency to strengthen international cooperation in combating corruption.

The proposed collaboration was discussed when the ICPC Chairman, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, received a delegation of Xinhua media professionals at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja on Saturday, October 24, 2026.
The meeting focused on opportunities for news sharing, information exchange and professional collaboration between the two organisations.
Leading the delegation, Xinhua’s Deputy President for Africa, Mr. Gui Tao, stressed the importance of accurate and balanced reporting in promoting international cooperation.
Gui expressed the agency’s readiness to support the ICPC in projecting its anti-corruption initiatives to a global audience, noting that corruption was a transnational challenge requiring collaboration across national borders.
He explained that Xinhua’s extensive international network could help amplify Nigeria’s anti-corruption efforts and promote greater awareness of the country’s reforms.
In his remarks, Aliyu described the proposed partnership as an opportunity to deepen Nigeria-China relations and strengthen efforts to tackle corruption, particularly illicit financial flows and the cross-border movement of proceeds of crime.
The ICPC chairman also emphasised the media’s role in shaping public perception and mobilising citizens to reject corruption.
He urged Xinhua to support the Commission’s media and public communication activities through technology transfer and professional training for staff of its Media and Public Communication Unit.
According to him, the initiative would strengthen the Commission’s communication capacity, improve information dissemination and increase the international visibility of its activities.
Responding, Gui reaffirmed Xinhua’s willingness to provide technical support and training opportunities for ICPC media personnel.
He added that the agency’s global platform could be used to showcase Nigeria’s anti-corruption reforms and achievements, noting that the proposed partnership would promote shared values of integrity and public accountability.
The collaboration is expected to strengthen media cooperation between Nigeria and China while promoting the ICPC’s anti-corruption agenda internationally.
