Mele Kyari, the Group Managing Director of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), says Nigerians should be paying at least N256 per litre for petrol.

Mr Kyari disclosed this at a stakeholders meeting organised by the NNPC to stop fuel smuggling.

Commenting on the current PMS and subsidy payment, Mr Kyari noted that the petrol pump price should be N256 per litre given the current exchange rate.

“If we are to sell at the market today at the current exchange rate, we will be selling the product at about N256 to a litre. What we sell today is N162, so the difference is at a cost to the nation,’’ he said.

According to him, the country cannot sustain subsidy payment with the high volume of daily consumption, pointing out that the country coughs up N150 billion every month on subsidy.

The NNPC boss further explained, “As long as we don’t regulate volume until we are able to exit this current level, which I know so much work is going on, then we have to manage the volume that we are exposed to between this price of N162 and N256. The difference comes back to as much as N140 billion to N150 billion cost to the country monthly.

“As long as the volume goes up, that money continues to increase, and we have two sets of stress to face: the stress of supply and stress of foreign exchange for the NNPC. We may not see foreign exchange cheque taking place for importation.’’

Give Bandits Contract To Guard Forests, Farmlands Or Else — Gumi Tells Government, Reveals Another Shocking

Give Bandits Contract To Guard Forests, Farmlands Or Else

Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has alleged that security operatives are working with bandits who are wreaking havoc across the country.

Speaking on Arise TV on Wednesday, Gumi accused some security personnel of giving armed gangs a soft landing.

He also urged farmers across the country to allow Fulani herdsmen to protect their forests.

The Islamic scholar, while admitting that bandits are committing all sorts of crimes, also said atrocities had been committed against them by various tribes across Nigeria.

Insisting on his call for amnesty for the bandits, Gumi said they are ready to surrender if the government will provide them with a means of livelihood.

He said, “The Niger Delta example, I think we can take an example from that. When they were vandalising pipelines, they were given the pipelines to guard.

“Now, the herdsmen are controlling a big chunk of land whereby they are preventing farmers from farming. As the Niger Delta is important to the economy, these herdsmen now are becoming important to the Nigerian economy.

“They can be our guards, they can guard the forests. They have qualities that we can tap from,” Gumi said.

He dismissed the amnesty granted to bandits by Katsina State Governor Bello Masari, describing it as “political amnesty” without any package.

“When you grant a political amnesty, I mean amnesty in the front of the press and the media but in the real sense, there was no amnesty.

“Amnesty comes with a package. The package is you rehabilitate these criminals, you provide for them social amenities.

“You entice them to leave the forests by providing them with skills. But there is no project put forward.”

According to Adeyanju: “PDP stakeholders want to present Tambuwal or Bala Mohammed both serving Governors as presidential candidates and someone from South as VP in 2023.

“They say everybody is tired of the Dubai man with dollars. Why won’t you guys present him now? I want to see you guys in opposition for 16yrs.

“Many of them are so pained that the man abandoned their party after the election and relocated to Dubai for two years but is now back to start campaigning for another ticket.

“The only way PDP can get real sense is if they spend 16yrs in opposition. APC should present an acceptable candidate in 2023.”

Model Speaks, says How I Received Threats, Insults For Displaying Bloodstained Nigerian Flag At Russian Pageant- Model Speaks

The model who displayed a blood-stained Nigerian flag while walking the Miss Africa Russian runway, Chiamaka Udeh said she has been receiving threats and insults from different quarters since the video went viral.

    Bloodstained Nigerian Flag

Last Tuesday, a video had gone viral showing Udeh holding up the red-stained Nigerian flag while appearing on stage at the pageant in Moscow as Nigeria’s representative.

This action had attracted the outrage of Nigerians in some quarters while some applauded her bravery.

A lawyer, Susan Henshaw, was one of those who disapproved of Udeh’s act of protest, alleging that she wanted to cheat her way through the competition by causing sentiments and playing on the emotions of the judges.

However, in a chat with BBC Igbo, the Lagos-born model from Anambra gave reasons for her action.

She noted that the act was never intended to tarnish the image of her country.

She said, “What I did was actually from my heart. I did it myself; no one told me to. It was a competition, a platform that was given to me. I used that platform to create an awareness of what is happening in Nigeria.

“I did it due to what happened on October 20 [2020]. I also did it because of the recent happenings now in Nigeria. It was basically to tell the world that we’ve not forgotten our fallen heroes, the Lekki protesters who died.

“I did it to also portray recent happenings because there are still killings, insecurity, rape, and all of those things. The flag signifies everything. That category was the ‘Tradition Cultural or National Costume’.

“I felt that I should dress as a nationalist to portray what is happening. I never thought it was going to go viral at all. I don’t know who shared it with bloggers. Right now that it has gone viral, I have received a lot of threats.

“I have received a lot of insults but it’s okay. People who got the message got it. For those who didn’t, it’s not on me. It was never my intention to tarnish the image of Nigeria. It was me creating an awareness that we need help.”

    Bloodstained Nigerian Flag

Since the attack by soldiers on #EndSARS protesters at Lekki Tollgate, Lagos on October 20, 2020, during which some protesters were killed, the red-stained Nigerian flag has become a symbol to honour the brave youths that died.

It also reminds Nigerians of the fight against insecurity and human rights violations yet to be won.

Buhari To MTN: Lower Cost Of Data

President Muhammadu Buhari has asked MTN Group to conduct a downward review of data price for its Nigerian subscribers.

Buhari said this while receiving members of the board of MTN led by Ralph Mupita, president/chief executive officer, at the state house in Abuja, on Friday.

The president assured MTN that his administration was doing everything possible to have a conducive environment for doing business in Nigeria.

“Nigeria is your most lucrative market in Africa, Asia and the Middle East, as well as the source of a third of the income of the entire MTN Group. As such, we urge you to offer top-of-the-range and affordable service to Nigerians,” he said.

“As we seek to make broadband widely available and affordable, we urge MTN to continue to support our efforts by expanding high-quality connectivity to Nigerians in unserved and underserved areas.

“I recently unveiled and launched the national policy for the promotion of indigenous content in the Nigerian Telecommunications Sector. I call on MTN to support the implementation of this policy and train and engage more Nigerians in your company.

“In particular, we would like you to continue to support our efforts by improving the quality of service and enabling a downward price review of the cost of data and other services, in view of your large market in Nigeria.

“We also urge you to step up your Corporate Social Responsibility programs and support Research and Development that will enhance your services in Nigeria.”

On Wednesday, Karl Toriola, chief executive officer of MTN Nigeria, had informed customers of a possible delay in service delivery amid rising insecurity in the country. However, the telecom giant said it would strive to deliver a seamless and uninterrupted high-quality network experience to meet customer’s needs.
