Terrorists Ambush Security Operatives, Kill Over 20 Officers
At least 21 vigilante members were killed in an ambush by bandits on Tuesday, January 7, in Baure Village, Safana Local Government Area of Katsina State, police authorities have confirmed.
It was gathered that the victims were reportedly returning from a condolence visit when they were attacked by the heavily armed bandits.
Meanwhile, Safana, like many parts of Katsina State, has faced recurring attacks from bandit groups targeting vulnerable communities.
The Katsina State Police Command’s spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Aliyu, confirmed this during a press briefing on Friday.
According to Aliyu, “On January 7, 2025, suspected armed bandits attacked a joint team of Katsina State Community Watch Corps and vigilante members in Baure Village, Safana Local Government Area.
“The group was returning from a condolence visit when the incident occurred around 4:30 p.m.
“Police operatives from the Safana Divisional Headquarters responded swiftly, restoring order to the area. Tragically, the attack claimed the lives of 21 individuals.
“Authorities have pledged to track down those responsible for the attack. Further updates will be provided as investigations progress,” Aliyu added.
