    BREAKING: Massive Sacks Rock NCoS

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has taken disciplinary action against several officers, dismissing three and demoting six others for various misconducts.

This information was released in a statement by the Service Public Relations Officer, Assistant Controller of Corrections Abubakar Umar, on Thursday in Abuja.

In the statement, Umar detailed the service’s efforts to uphold high standards of discipline and professionalism by reviewing numerous cases of unprofessional conduct.

The offences reviewed included gross negligence, unauthorized absences, trafficking in illicit items, and overall inefficiency. As a result of these reviews, three officers, including a Controller of Corrections, were dismissed from service.

The Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) issued letters indicating that twenty personnel were discharged and acquitted of various accusations. Additionally, one previously suspended officer was reinstated following the review process.

The disciplinary actions also included the compulsory retirement of three personnel, the demotion of six, and either verbal or written warnings for thirteen others. These measures align with the zero-tolerance policy for staff misconduct advocated by the Controller General of Corrections, Haliru Nababa.

This policy aims to eliminate unscrupulous elements and misfits within the service to enhance professionalism, discipline, and excellence among officers and staff.

Umar emphasized the service’s commitment to maintaining safe and humane conditions for those legally interned, as well as their reformation, rehabilitation, and reintegration into society as responsible citizens. To achieve these mandates, the NCoS is dedicated to removing unprofessional personnel that could hinder their goals.

The NCoS reassures the public of its commitment to securing all custodial and non-custodial facilities and promoting true correctional practices that adhere to international standards.
