BREAKING: FG Moves To Reform NYSC

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) is set to undergo restructuring to align with future demands, according to Youth Development Minister Jamila Bio-Ibrahim. She announced plans to inaugurate a team to review, restructure, and reform the NYSC.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the maiden meeting of NYSC management with heads of corps producing institutions in Nigeria, Bio-Ibrahim also revealed that over 5,000 corps members would have their entrepreneurial ventures funded with about N10 million.

The minister stated that the reforms would focus on reviewing participants with an entrepreneurship mindset and making skills development a core aspect of the program. The goal is to strengthen the NYSC’s mandate to be more efficient, effective, and beneficial.

Bio-Ibrahim emphasized the vision of making NYSC programs self-sustained and revenue-generating within the next five years. To achieve this, the NYSC ventures will be institutionalized as an investment and asset management outfit.

Additionally, as part of the Nigerian Youth Investment Fund program for 2024, at least 5,000 corps members will have their entrepreneurial ventures funded with up to N10 million upon completion of their service.

The Director-General of the NYSC, Brig.-Gen. Yushau Dogara Ahmed, stated that the meeting aimed to enhance the mobilization of prospective corps members and evolve strategies for eliminating identified flaws in the mobilization process.

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike praised the NYSC’s initiative to bring stakeholders together for brainstorming on strategies to achieve greater success. He noted that the NYSC has consistently symbolized Nigeria’s commitment to national development, unity, and integration.
