A 51-year-old woman professional beggar has confessed that she sells money received from ‘Good Samaritan’ as alms to herbalists and Alfas for money making rituals to ruin and impoverish the giver.
Confessing after she was nabbed at a popular market in Ikorodu , the woman said she has built four houses and three cars from her illicit trade.
Luck, however ran out of her at the weekend when one of her tenant who spotted her begging for alms in Ikorodu called her name. In a bid to meander through without being noticed, the woman shouted that her tenant was a thief and was apprehended. It was while the crowd who had gathered to lynch her tenant that he exposed the woman as her landlady and was promptly arrested and handed over to the police for further interrogation.
The woman said she normally park her car far away from where she wants to ‘operate’ and beg for alms in order not to be exposed.
The woman who said they devise many means to extort money from unsuspecting Good Samaritan said they may pose as a family of someone in need of fund for surgery with fake pictures to back up their claim. She also explain as part of their mode of operation that they posed as someone stranded and in need of transport fares or someone who has been attacked by the streets urchins, popularly known as ‘Area Boys’ to extort money.
Some of her agents also pretend to be blind or cripple begging for alms. Some also ask people to buy bread or something to eat for them. The woman hinted that she has about 12 agents who work for her and that they dare not betray her because of the oath of allegiance They swore to, otherwise something terrible may happen to them.
On the remuneration, the woman said those nursing mothers get paid daily to feed and also get something at the end of the month.
She, however, explained that she will in turn sell the money received as alms to herbalists and alfas who are into money making rituals. She said at times they will give her double of the money or 40% increment on the money because of what they will use it for. And from the proceeds which she started 10 years ago has been able to build four houses and three cars.
