Atiku Supporter Arraigned Over Alleged Fake Tinubu Letter to US President

The Department of State Services (DSS) has arraigned a supporter of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over the alleged circulation of a fake letter purportedly written by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the President of the United States.

The suspect, identified as Mubarak Abdullahi, popularly known as Sardaunan Samari, was arrested on September 28 for allegedly sharing the document on his Facebook page with the caption, “ATIKU IS COMING.”
According to a statement issued on Monday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Abdullahi reportedly admitted during interrogation that he shared the document and apologised for his actions.
However, his apology did not prevent the DSS from proceeding with legal action against him.
The suspect was subsequently arraigned before Chief Magistrate Court No. 10, Kabala Doki, Kaduna, which ordered that he be remanded at the Nigerian Correctional Centre in Kaduna.
The DSS has also filed a three-count charge against him at the Federal High Court in Kaduna over alleged cybercrime and defamation. The date for his formal arraignment before the Federal High Court has yet to be announced.
Onanuga, who disclosed the development in a statement shared on his X handle, said the DSS had continued to demonstrate its ability to identify and track individuals involved in circulating misleading information online.
