Edo: Army Rescues Victim, Neutralises Three Kidnappers
The Nigerian Army has rescued a kidnapping victim, Prince Micheal Akao, and neutralised three suspected kidnappers during a security operation in Sasaro Forest, Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State.
The operation, which took place on Sunday, October 11, 2026, involved troops of the 195 Battalion (Rear) working in collaboration with other security agencies following intelligence received about the criminal activities in the area.
According to the information released, the troops launched a search operation in the forest, successfully located and rescued the victim, and neutralised three suspected kidnappers.
The security personnel also recovered three locally made firearms, nine cartridges and other sundry items during the operation.
Following his rescue, Akao was evacuated to a hospital for medical attention and is reportedly responding to treatment.
The recovered weapons and other items have been transferred to the Department of State Services for further action, while the corpses of the three suspects are in the custody of the Nigeria Police Force.
The Army reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining intelligence-driven operations in partnership with other security agencies to dismantle kidnapping networks, eliminate criminal hideouts and safeguard lives and property.
It added that the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to prevent criminals from exploiting forested areas as safe havens and threatening the security of surrounding communities
