COAS Praises Nasarawa Government for Supporting New Army Formations
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has commended the Nasarawa State Government for supporting newly established Nigerian Army formations and units in the state.
Shaibu gave the commendation on Friday, October 9, 2026, during a courtesy visit to Governor Abdullahi Sule at the Government House in Lafia.
The visit formed part of the COAS’s operational assessment tour and activities marking the graduation of a full-fledged Special Forces battalion at the Nigerian Army Special Forces School in Doma.
The Army chief said the visit enabled him to assess the operational readiness and administrative arrangements of the newly established formations and units.
He expressed appreciation to the governor and the people of Nasarawa State for providing the necessary facilities and an enabling environment for the formations to commence operations effectively.
Shaibu explained that the expansion of the Nigerian Army from eight to 12 divisions requires stronger operational capabilities, improved troop deployment and closer collaboration with state governments and other security stakeholders.
He noted that Nasarawa State’s strategic position as host to several Army formations, including the Nigerian Army Special Forces School, would enhance security coverage, improve responses to emerging threats and promote peace across the North-Central region.
In his response, Governor Sule thanked the Chief of Army Staff for establishing the formations in the state, describing the development as a strategic step towards improving security and creating a favourable environment for economic and social activities.
The governor assured the Nigerian Army and other security agencies of his administration’s continued support and cooperation to sustain peace and enable them to carry out their constitutional responsibilities effectively.
