ICPC to Transform Anti-Corruption Academy into World-Class Institution
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has announced plans to reposition the Anti-Corruption Academy of Nigeria (ACAN) as a world-class institution for anti-corruption training and research.
The ICPC Chairman, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, disclosed this on Tuesday in Keffi, Nasarawa State, while flagging off a three-day workshop on Illicit Financial Flows (IFFs) and Money Laundering, as well as an Anti-Corruption Leadership Series.
The training brings together public officers, civil servants and stakeholders from various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to strengthen their capacity to tackle corruption, money laundering and illicit financial activities.
Aliyu said the fight against corruption required more than enforcement, stressing that prevention through knowledge, integrity and leadership was equally important.
According to him, illicit financial flows continue to deny Nigeria the resources required for development, while contributing to economic hardship, weak governance and inadequate public services.
He said the workshop would equip participants with the skills needed to identify, prevent and report suspicious financial transactions and other illicit activities.
“Enforcement is only one leg of the fight against corruption. Sustainable anti-corruption requires prevention through knowledge, integrity and leadership,” he said.
The ICPC boss urged participants to become ambassadors of transparency and accountability by applying the knowledge acquired in their respective organisations.
He further stated that ACAN would be developed into a centre of excellence capable of competing with leading anti-corruption institutions globally.
During the event, Aliyu inspected the Academy’s facilities to assess areas requiring urgent improvement.
He assured that the ICPC would provide the necessary infrastructure, support and partnerships to ensure ACAN meets international standards in anti-corruption education and capacity building.
