How I Made Ita Enang Ambassador to Germany – Akpabio

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has revealed that former Senator Ita Enang was appointed Nigeria’s ambassador to Germany after allegedly telling him that he would not stop criticising Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno until he was given a political appointment.
Akpabio made the revelation on Sunday during a special dedication service for the All Progressives Congress (APC) 2027 election campaign in Akwa Ibom State.
Speaking at the event, the former Akwa Ibom governor recounted how he once contacted Enang over his persistent criticism of the Eno administration.

According to Akpabio, he appealed to the former senator to stop attacking the governor, whom he described as someone God had given the state.
He quoted Enang as responding: “Until you give me something to do, I will not stop.”
Akpabio said he subsequently decided to recommend him for a diplomatic appointment, which eventually saw him emerge as Nigeria’s ambassador to Germany.
“So, I decided to send him as ambassador to Germany. So, let me welcome Nigeria’s Ambassador to Germany, Ambassador Ita Enang in a special way,” Akpabio said.
Turning to Governor Eno, the Senate President jokingly offered to intervene if anyone else continued criticising his administration.
“So, Governor Umo Eno, if there is any other person troubling you, give me the assignment. I will give the person something to do, and he will not talk to you again,” he added.
In a video of the event reviewed by PREMIUM TIMES, Enang was seen standing up, smiling and waving to the audience as Akpabio introduced him as Nigeria’s ambassador to Germany.
Enang had previously criticised successive administrations in Akwa Ibom State, including the current government led by Governor Eno.
Akpabio’s account has, however, raised questions about the circumstances surrounding Enang’s diplomatic appointment and whether his previous criticisms of the governor played a role in the process.
