KATSINA: Troops Disrupt Terrorist Operation, Free 27 Abducted Residents
Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have foiled a kidnapping operation in Katsina State, rescuing 27 abducted residents and recovering a motorcycle abandoned by fleeing terrorists during separate security operations.
The military operation followed a distress call received by troops of Sector 1 on 16 October 2026 concerning terrorist activities in Gamji community, Sabuwa Local Government Area, where 27 residents, including 15 males and 12 females, had reportedly been abducted.
Acting on the report, the troops immediately mobilised and pursued the terrorists along the Gangare–Kamba axis.

The troops subsequently made contact with the fleeing assailants and engaged them with superior firepower, compelling the terrorists to abandon their captives and escape.
All 27 kidnapped victims were rescued unharmed during a search of the area. They were subsequently profiled and handed over to community leaders to facilitate their reunion with their respective families.
Meanwhile, troops conducting a separate fighting patrol around Kurba village in Kankara Local Government Area on the same day encountered terrorists travelling on three motorcycles.
On sighting the advancing troops, the terrorists reportedly fled, abandoning one motorcycle, which was recovered by the troops.
The twin operations represent another effort by Operation FANSAN YAMMA to frustrate terrorist activities, protect civilians and prevent armed groups from operating freely across the North-West.
The operations also demonstrate the importance of rapid military response to distress calls and sustained patrols in vulnerable communities.
Reacting to the successes, the Theatre Commander, Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, praised the troops for their bravery and swift response, urging them to sustain the momentum in ongoing operations against terrorists.
He further assured residents of Katsina, Zamfara and adjoining states that the Task Force would remain committed to its mandate of restoring lasting peace and security throughout the Joint Operations Area.
