Tinubu Commissions ₦280bn Bodo-Bonny Road, Ends 76-Year Wait for Connectivity
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commissioned the 37.9-kilometre Bodo-Bonny Road in Rivers State, bringing an end to a 76-year wait for the historic infrastructure project first conceived in 1950.
The commissioning ceremony was held on November 7, 2026, during the Presidential Campaign Council event at the Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt.

The road, completed at a cost of ₦280 billion, includes approximately three kilometres of bridges across the Opobo Channel and provides Bonny communities with direct road access to Bodo and the wider road network.
Speaking at the event, the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, expressed excitement over the completion of the project, describing it as a major milestone in the country’s infrastructure development.
Umahi disclosed that President Tinubu had also approved an extension of the road to the East-West Road to further improve transportation and economic activities in the area.
According to the minister, the approved extension will cover 8.9 kilometres of dual carriageway, translating to 17.8 kilometres of road using reinforced concrete pavement.
He said the extension would strengthen connectivity, ease transportation and create additional economic opportunities for communities and businesses along the corridor.
Umahi added that the project represents a major engineering investment, particularly because of the extensive bridges constructed across the Opobo Channel, with an average cost of approximately ₦7.4 billion per kilometre.
