NAF Recovers Cockpit Voice Recorder From Crashed ATR-42 Aircraft In Ondo

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has recovered the Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) from the crashed ATR-42 aircraft in Igbokoda, Ondo State, as recovery and investigation efforts continue.

The recorder was confirmed intact by technical teams from the NAF and the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB). Part of the Flight Data Recorder (FDR), popularly known as the black box, was also recovered, while efforts are ongoing to locate and retrieve its remaining portion.
The NAF also disclosed that additional aircraft wreckage, engine components and human remains had been recovered from the accident site.
Recovery operations are continuing in the difficult swamp terrain, with technical teams working to retrieve the remaining aircraft components and facilitate detailed examinations.
The investigation is being conducted by relevant technical authorities to establish the circumstances surrounding the accident and ensure that findings are comprehensive and evidence-based.
Meanwhile, the Directorate of Identification and Classification (DIC) is handling procedures for the proper identification of recovered human remains.
The Air Force said it had maintained communication with the families of the victims, providing necessary engagement and support. It also noted that discussions with relevant authorities over environmental concerns raised by the host community remain part of the ongoing response.
The NAF appealed to the public to exercise patience and understanding, explaining that the recovery and investigation processes require time, professional attention and careful coordination.
It reaffirmed its commitment to providing verified updates, adding that the investigation would help identify lessons to improve flight safety, strengthen air operations and protect the lives of personnel and citizens.
