BREAKING: Kano Council Arrests Traders Over Alleged Attempt To Change Expiry Dates On Expired Milk

The Kano State Consumer Protection Council (KCPC), in collaboration with the leadership of Singer Market, has arrested some traders over an alleged attempt to alter the expiry dates of an expired milk product.

The council also sealed the shops allegedly linked to the illegal activity.
In a statement signed by its Director of Public Enlightenment, Jamilu Mustapha Yakasai, the council said the operation followed an emergency report from the Deputy Chairman of the Traders’ Association, Aminu Umar Dogara.
The report alerted the council to suspected attempts by some traders to manipulate the expiry dates of expired milk products within the market.
Following the report, officials of the council were immediately deployed to the market to investigate the allegation, leading to the arrest of the suspects and the sealing of the affected shops.
The Director of Monitoring of Traders and Products, Auwalu A. Muhammad, said the council would not tolerate practices that expose consumers to expired, adulterated or substandard products.
He stressed that the council remained committed to protecting consumers against traders who deliberately alter product information, quality or condition in violation of the law.
Earlier, the Executive Secretary of the council, Dr Ibrahim Garba Muhammad, warned that individuals found violating consumers’ rights would be prosecuted and made to face the appropriate punishment.
He commended the leadership of the market association for cooperating with the council in its efforts to prevent the circulation of substandard and adulterated products.
Dr Ibrahim also appreciated the Kano State Government, under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, for supporting the council and allowing it to carry out its responsibilities without interference.
