The Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Apollonia Anele, has inaugurated the 2026 second quarter courses at the Nigerian Army School of Public Relations and Information (NASPRI), commending the institution for its steady growth and professional contributions since its establishment in 2010.
Speaking as Special Guest of Honour at the inauguration ceremony held at the Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja Auditorium in the Muhammadu Buhari Cantonment, Giri, Abuja, Colonel Anele described NASPRI’s progress as a reflection of its commitment to capacity development and institutional excellence.
She emphasized the relevance of the newly introduced courses, noting that they are tailored to address emerging challenges in today’s security environment. According to her, the programmes incorporate modern concepts such as digital warfare and crisis communication, equipping personnel with the skills required to operate effectively in a rapidly evolving information space.
Colonel Anele observed that the rise of digital and social media has significantly transformed how military operations are perceived and communicated, stressing that information is no longer controlled by traditional gatekeepers. She urged participants, particularly those of the Advanced Public Relations Course, to approach their training with dedication and professionalism, highlighting the critical role of strategic communication in shaping public perception and supporting military operations.
In his welcome address, the Acting Commandant of NASPRI, Lieutenant Colonel Shuaib Umar, called on students to maintain discipline and commitment throughout the course. He reiterated the institution’s zero tolerance for indiscipline and commended the Acting Director for her continued support and guidance.
The Commandant also praised the efforts of the school’s staff, acknowledging their dedication to delivering quality training aimed at preparing personnel for both operational and professional responsibilities.
Earlier, the Acting Chief Instructor, Major Nureni Alimi, outlined the course structure, explaining that it combines theoretical knowledge with practical application to ensure comprehensive learning. He expressed confidence in the leadership of the Commandant, particularly in his efforts to continuously update the curriculum to meet contemporary demands.
Participants were also reminded to adhere strictly to Standard Operating Procedures and uphold the core values of the Nigerian Army as essential elements of professionalism and operational effectiveness.
The ceremony featured a series of activities, including the formal inauguration of the courses, presentation of souvenirs to the Special Guest of Honour, a symbolic tree-planting exercise, and group photographs to commemorate the occasion. The event underscored NASPRI’s ongoing role in strengthening communication and information management within the Nigerian Army.
