APC Urges Focus on Governance, Rejects 2027 Running Mate Speculation

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed reports suggesting that Vice President Kashim Shettima may be replaced as President Bola Tinubu’s running mate ahead of the 2027 General Elections, describing such claims as speculative, untrue, and baseless.

In a statement issued on [date], the ruling party said its attention had been drawn to what it described as a growing media frenzy over the possibility of a change in the presidential ticket, noting that recent reports went further to mention specific individuals as potential replacements for the Vice President.
The APC stated categorically that there is no basis for the claims, urging media organisations to refrain from giving prominence to what it called rumour-peddlers and mischievous sources whose intentions are to sow discord and confusion within the polity.

According to the party, existing laws and electoral regulations still prohibit political activities, stressing that discussions about the 2027 elections are premature.

“At this time, our party remains focused on supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima in the delivery of the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda,” the statement said.

The APC added that the Tinubu administration is currently implementing bold reforms aimed at transforming the economy, building prosperity, and improving the living conditions of Nigerians.

The party also cautioned ministers, senior government officials, and party leaders against making statements that could fuel unnecessary speculation, whether intentionally or otherwise.
It urged public office holders to concentrate on their primary responsibility of diligent service to the government and the party, while working to strengthen and promote the achievements of President Tinubu, whom it described as a visionary leader.
