DROAN consults Dokubo in Rivers State, Photos
As part of the consultative efforts to consolidate and bring about peaceful coexistence among the stakeholders and boost production of Oil and Gas in Niger Delta Region for economic sustainability in Nigeria, Domestic Refinery Owners Association of Nigeria (DROAN), over the weekend, consulted with Asari Dokubo at Obuama Community in Degema, Rivers State.
The leadership of DROAN expressed delight and appreciated Dokubo for giving them the opportunity to meet with him despite the short notice.
In his response, Dokubo thanked and appreciated the DROAN for coming to consult with him and promised to identify with the association. He narrated the challenges and setbacks that has affected the region mostly due to the failure of the Government to keep to their promises.
He noted that “the people of Niger Delta has lost confidence in government because they have failed to take responsibilities and are not interested in putting a lasting solution to the issues affecting Niger Delta Region and her people. “There is no sincerity of purpose and this movement might be an effort in futility but since the DROAN had started engaging the government, they should go ahead but the government has not been sincere to their promises”, he said.
Dokubo further highlighted the promises made by Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo many years ago to the region yet, nothing has been done”.

In his response, the Chairman of DROAN, Comrade Godwin Sunday thanked Dukobo for creating time to meet with them despite the short notice. He noted that, “no matter the numbers of modular refineries established in the Niger Delta Region, the Oil thefts will not cease until the Federal Government acknowledge and engage the operators, who are in the creeks, directly ”
The Chairman expressed confidence that the actions of his members are under control and it is guaranteed at the moment. He however stated that he may not take responsibility for their actions in the future because further delay by the government could lead them to take action. He urged the government to cease the opportunity and expedite actions in integrating DROAN into Petroleum mainstream sector.
He narrated that, “DROAN are not demanding or urging government to build us refinery but to acknowledge the locally and fabricated technology of crude oil production and “give us licenses to operate in clusters within the Nine States of the Niger Delta Region”.
He appealed to the Federal Government to work in tandem with the National Assembly to include their demands in Petroleum Industrial Bill (PIB), particularly the communiqué issued at the just concluded summit of Integration of Artisanal/Modular Refinery into Petroleum mainstream sector organized by the Ministry of Budget and National Planning at Sheraton Hotel on 16-17 March, 2021.
In his closing remark, the Chairman thanked President Mohammadu Buhari, Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo and Senior Special Assistant to the President on Niger Delta Affairs, Distinguished Senator Ita Enang for their supports and encouragement towards actualizing the vision of DROAN.
