GWR Dismisses Ghana Chef’s 227-Hour Cook-A-thon
Ghanaian chef, Failatu Abdul-Razak’s attempt to break the record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual has been turned down by the Guinness World Records
Faila had on 1st January, 2024, commenced a cook-a-thon at the Modern City Hotel in Tamale, to set a new GWR.
She completed the marathon after ten days.
Speaking in a social media post, Faila wrote; “Now, it’s time for us to rejoice and jubilate. This victory is dedicated to God and Ghana. Thank you all, m’pagya!”
During the attempt, Faila attracted support from Ghanaian celebrities, including former Black Star footballers, Stephen Appiah and Asamoah Gyan.
Ghana vice president, Mahamudu Bawumia on his Facebook page, posted about the attempt and also donated 30,000 Ghanaian cedis (£1,981) to the chef.
However, the coordinator, Kafui DeyDey in a statement on Monday announced that the attempt failed.
She explained that the 227-hour cook-a-thon which had received broad endorsements from Ghana’s military, politicians, and celebrities failed because the chef didn’t follow the regulations for rest breaks.
The statement reads in part; “A statement from the Records Management Team cited a violation of the rest break rules, resulting in an unsuccessful attempt.”
However, Chef Abdul-Razak thanked her fans in spite of the setback, stating that she doesn’t take their important role in her path for granted.
