CJN Ariwoola Lands In Serious Trouble Over Meeting With Tinubu In London
The Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) has asked President Muhammadu Buhari and security agencies to investigate Justice Kayode Ariwoola’s recent trip to the United Kingdom for a secret meeting with President-elect Bola Tinubu.
It was reported Mr Ariwoola’s trip to the UK where he had plans to meet with Mr Tinubu to discuss matters relating to the ongoing legal cases arising from the February 25 presidential election.
The news had brought to the fore Mr Ariwoola’s past record of political impropriety including his grilling by the State Security Service (SSS) on comments he made in support of the G-5 governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who worked against the candidate of their party in the election, some in support of Mr Tinubu.
Mr Ariwoola’s improper political posturing and recent events continue to worsen the apex court’s reputational nosedive, casting even more doubts on its ability to supervise the ongoing political and electoral litigations.
According to the CNPP, in a statement signed over the weekend by its secretary, Willy Ezugwu, recent pronouncements by the court have questiones its integrity and it is necessary to put the controversy to rest through an investigation in the interest of justice and national security.
“The Supreme Court under the current leadership has given several verdicts on political litigation in recent times which put the integrity of the apex court to question before this very damaging report by an online news portal on the alleged planned meeting between the CJN and the President-elect in London,” the statement said.
It added, “The CNPP, therefore, calls on President Muhammadu Buhari, security agencies, and all relevant stakeholders to institute an open investigation into the reported planned meeting between CJN Ariwoola and President-elect Tinubu to lay to rest the controversy in the interest of justice and national security.”
