Tension As The UK Disagrees With FG On Nnamdi Kanu’s Arrest, Reveals Next Action

A reports reaching us that The UK Disagrees With FG On Nnamdi Kanu’s Arrest, Reveals Next Action

The Nigerian government and the government of the United Kingdom appear to be on different pages over the arrest of Nnamdi Kanu.

This is because while the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice Mr Abubakar Malami stated on Tuesday that the Biafran separatist leader was arrested in the UK and extradited to Nigeria to face trial, however, a spokesperson of the British High Commission is saying otherwise.

“We can confirm that Nnamdi Kanu was not arrested in the UK for extradition purposes,” said Dean Hurlock, according to The Cable. “I just spoke with a top UK government source, Nnamdi Kanu was NOT arrested or extradited by the British,” adds former presidential spokesman and lawyer Reno Omokri, who tweeted about the development yesterday.

Omokri went on: “According to this official, Kanu was ‘almost definitely arrested in KENYA’ and ‘it was an illegal detention’. I won’t reveal my source, but I have him on record.”

I just spoke with a top UK government source. Nnamdi Kanu was NOT arrested or extradited by the British. According to this official, Kanu was “almost definitely arrested in KENYA” and “it was an illegal detention”. I won’t reveal my source, but I have him on record #TableShaker

On June 29, the Attorney General of the Federation disclosed the arrest of the leader of the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB).

Mr Malami said Mr Kanu was first arrested on 14 October 2015 and was slammed with an eleven-count charge.

The charges bordered on terrorism, treasonable felony, managing an unlawful society, publication of defamatory matter, illegal possession of firearms and improper importation of goods, among others.

The leader of the proscribed secessionist group however disappeared while on bail regarding the 11 count charge against him.

Without elaborating, Mr Malami said the 53-year-old was arrested through the collaborative efforts of Nigerian intelligence and security services in the UK.

He mentioned that the IPOB leader had been arraigned before Justice Muritala Nyanko of the Federal High court in Abuja, with reports saying the case has been adjourned to 26 July 2021.
