Woman Fakes Own Kidnapping To Demand N10m
Nigerian Police, Edo State Command have arrested 18-year-old Obehi Odine for allegedly staging her own kidnap in Edo State.
The “kidnappers” were said to have demanded a N10 million ransom from her relatives to secure her release.
The suspect was reportedly “kidnapped” on the afternoon of January 12 along Old INEC Road and whisked into a nearby forest. Shortly after, the supposed abductors contacted her family, demanding the sum for her freedom.
The command’s spokesperson, ASP Ikoedem Eno, said the suspect was arrested following the use of technical intelligence and field investigations.
She explained that the command had deployed operational resources to track the kidnappers, but the investigation eventually revealed a case of self-kidnapping.
“The suspect, one Obehi Odine, 18, was arrested for staging her own kidnapping and demanding a ransom of N10 million,” Eno said.
The spokesperson added that the young woman confessed to the crime, admitting that the abduction was deliberately fabricated to extort money from her relatives and associates.
