A staff of the University of Calabar (UNICAL) working in the Registrar Office identified only as Mr Ubong has drowned in the Orange Resort swimming pool located at 151 MCC Road, Ikot Uduak at Akai Efa, Calabar Municipal Local Government Area of Cross River State.
THE PARADISE NEWS gathered that the incident occurred on Monday (Feb. 21, 2022) night against Tuesday (Feb. 22, 2022) morning, when the deceased, Mr Ubong, age 41, went missing in the resort, only for his body to be found floating on top of the Pool waters.
A reliable source, who spoke under anonymity told THE PARADISE NEWS that the UNICAL Staff went to the bar to buy some drinks and food after he left his house to cool off himself in the Swimming Pool of Orange Resort.
“He came to the hotel to cool off himself because of the intense heat we are experiencing in Calabar. While at the hotel, he went to buy some drinks and food at the bar. He did not even pay the barman but he dropped off his phone and went to the pool without informing anyone. It was at about 2:00 a.m. in the night when the barman was rendering his account that he realised someone hasn’t paid his/her bills – and that was Mr Ubong.
“As they kept searching the resort, it was around 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Tuesday that they saw his body floating on top of the swimming pool. They called the Police who came and arrested the Manager and the Barman and took them to the Divisional Police Station (Division B) at Parliamentary Extension as the owner of the hotel is on the run”, the source said.
