Trump’s Planned Mass Deportation In US
United States president-elect, Donald Trump’s incoming administration plans to launch a major immigration raid in Chicago the day after he assumes office, according to a report from the Wall Street Journal on Friday, which cited four sources familiar with the plans.
The operation, expected to begin on Tuesday and continue throughout the week, will involve U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) deploying between 100 and 200 officers, the newspaper reported.
Trump’s transition team did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
However, a source familiar with the administration’s plans said that ICE would increase enforcement nationwide, with no specific focus on Chicago or surge of personnel there.
“We will be conducting operations across the country,” the source explained, adding, “Arrests will take place in New York, in Miami,” according to The Guardian UK report.
Tom Homan, Trump’s designated border czar, told an event in Chicago that enforcement would start in the city, according to the Journal.
“If the mayor of Chicago doesn’t want to help, he can step aside,” Homan was quoted as saying.
Homan added, “But if he obstructs us or knowingly shelters an illegal alien, I will prosecute him.”
Immigration was a central issue in Trump’s campaign leading up to the November 5 election.
“Right after my inauguration, we will launch the largest domestic deportation operation in American history,” Trump stated in January 2024.
Reports indicate Trump plans to mobilize various federal agencies to facilitate the deportation of large numbers of immigrants, continuing efforts from his first term to use all available resources and apply pressure on “sanctuary” jurisdictions to cooperate.
Naija News House also in November 2024 reported that the Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry may face deportation from the United States following Donald Trump’s election victory.
Experts had suggested that the new administration could pose significant challenges for the royal, particularly concerning his immigration status.
Prince Harry may have lost the “upper hand” in his battle to keep his immigration documents secret after Trump’s decisive election win, legal experts revealed.
Beverly Hills attorney Alphonse Provinziano, an international family law specialist, had warned that Harry could face a “fight” to remain in the US during Trump’s presidency.
