Transformer Vandal Electrocuted
A man lost his life after being electrocuted while allegedly attempting to vandalize a transformer in the Akute area of Ogun State.
Reports suggest the community had been grappling with repeated thefts and damage to electrical wires connected to their power transformer.
Confirming the incident in a statement on Saturday, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Omolola Odutola, explained that the man died after climbing into the transformer house and attempting to cut a wire.
She noted that the incident was reported by the chairman of the Irewole community, Rasheed Ajagbe, who had received a call about the transformer that morning.
“At about 10:20 am on Friday, the chairman of the Irewole community, a man identified as Rasheed Ajagbe, reported to the station that for a while, the community had been experiencing theft and damage of electrical wires from their power transformer,” the statement read.
“He reported that around 7 am, he received a call to inspect the transformer and he went there with other community executives. When they arrived at the transformer house, they found the lifeless body of an unidentified individual and saw that the man had attempted to vandalise a wire, which then resulted in electrocution,” Odutola added.
She revealed that detectives visited the scene, took photographs, and contacted the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) office. The body was subsequently moved to the General Hospital Ifo mortuary for autopsy and preservation.
