EXCLUSIVE: 10th Assembly: Tinubu Favours Oshiomole For Senate Presidency
As the battle for the leadership of the National Assembly gears up, with different Senators elect from the major political parties justling to become the Senate President of the 10th Senate, speculations suggesting that the President elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has penned down the Former Governor of Edo State and Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Adams Aliu Oshiomole to be the consensus candidate of the Ruling Party.
However the verasity of this speculation, according to the Senate Standing rule and with recourse to the Procedures of the Senate, someone with no legislative Experience cannot be nominated in the first instance to be a presiding officer of the Senate.
According to Order 3 paragraph 2 of the Senate Standing Order, Nomination of Senators to serve as presiding officers or as Principal Officers shall be in accordance with ranking of Senators. In determining ranking the Senate standing Order stipulates as follows :
i. Senators returning based on number of times reelected;
ii. Senators who had been members of House of Representatives;
iii. Senators elected for the First Time.
From the above procedures as stipulated by the Senate standing order, Adams Aliu Oshiomole may not stand a chance of becoming the Senate President of the 10th Senate as there are other Senators elect with legislative experience and that are regarded as ranking Senators who are better positioned of been nominated as presiding officers of the 10th Senate.
Though Ibom Focus yet to confirm if truly Tinubu endorsed Adams Oshiomole
But Who then should become the next Senate President if it is eventually zoned to the South?
