Terrorists who dressed in hijab, also known as abaya, have attacked the Runka community in Safana Local Government Area of Katsina State and abducted 25 persons, primarily women and children.

The community is located near the notorious Rugu Forest, a long-time hideout for terrorists.

A source from the community told Channels TV that the attackers, armed with guns, invaded the area around 10pm on Saturday night, firing shots indiscriminately throughout the community.

The source said that there were no fatalities reported among the community members, except for one person who sustained injuries while attempting to flee and has since been hospitalised.

During the raid, the terrorists systematically entered homes, forcefully taking residents and ransacking properties.

Disturbingly, one bandit was heard speaking on the phone to an unknown informant, remarking, “Today, we’ve come to your hometown.”

It was reported that at the time of the attack, there was a notable absence of security forces, though after the incident, an armored personnel carrier with police personnel was dispatched to patrol the area.

Meanwhile, till the time of filing this report, the police authorities in Katsina State have not issued a statement on the incident.

But the Chairman of Safana Local Government Area, Abdullahi, who confirmed the incident said that 22 persons were abducted, with some managing to escape.

Abdullahi also noted “The DPO Safana has deployed and stationed his team alongside soldiers to the area and they have already commenced a rescue operation.”
