    The police in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, have arrested an Assistant Superintendent of Police, identified only as Kulu, alongside her accomplice, one Elizabeth, for allegedly abducting five children.

    The children abducted includes a less than two-week-old-baby girl from Sokoto State, three toddlers under the age of two, and a five-year-old named Asmau Ya’u, who was reportedly abducted while on her way to an Islamiyya school in Sokoto.

    It was learnt that the suspects came under suspicion while travelling from Sokoto to Abuja in an 18-seater bus, as fellow passengers observed that none of the women could breastfeed the crying infant, despite her evident hunger throughout the journey.

    A co-traveller who gave his name as Abba Danbaba and Comrade Nura Mukhtar of Human Rights Network Nigeria, on Monday told Daily Trust that “On that Saturday (April 27), as we were travelling, we noticed that the children were in a frenzy and couldn’t talk.

    “So, as we alighted at Deidei, we queried them to prove if they were their biological children to which they answered in the affirmative.

    “The ASP said she couldn’t breastfeed the toddler because she’s been battling breast disease.

    “We then alerted Deidei police division who took the suspects to Gwagwa division and on Monday (yesterday), they were transferred to FCT command alongside the abducted children,” they added.

    Investigation revealed that ASP Kulu, reportedly serving with the Kubwa division, had applied for leave, which was not granted before her trip to Sokoto.

    According to the report, it was gathered that additional children in her custody at her Deidei apartment, and witnesses from Sokoto Motor Park testified to seeing her with numerous children in the previous weeks.

    Meanwhile, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, who confirmed the incident, noting that investigations were ongoing.
