CCE Visits OPHK Headquarters, Reaffirms Support for 7 Division Operations

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division Nigerian Army, Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), Brigadier General Ugochukwu Unachukwu, on Thursday, 29 January 2026, hosted the Commander Corps of Engineers (CCE), Major General Shamsideen Shafaru, during an operational assessment visit to the Division Headquarters.
The visit was aimed at evaluating the combat readiness, operational proficiency, and overall welfare of Engineer troops and platforms deployed within the Theatre of Operations.
Speaking during the visit, Major General Shafaru expressed satisfaction with the performance of 7 Division in the ongoing operations, describing the Division’s achievements as commendable. He emphasized the critical role of the Nigerian Army Corps of Engineers as a Combat Support Corps in ensuring mission success.
“I am very delighted and proud of the accomplishments of 7 Division in the ongoing operations. As a Combat Support Corps, we want to ensure that we play our role actively and proficiently. This can only be achieved through a holistic assessment of our platforms and troops’ readiness, which are critical to the overall success of the operations,” the CCE stated.
Major General Shafaru further explained that the visit was in line with efforts to strengthen the Nigerian Army’s transformation, resilience, and adaptability, in accordance with the command philosophy of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, Nigerian Army Medal (NAM).
He disclosed that additional Engineer platforms had been acquired, with plans underway to deploy some of them to OPHK. He also reassured the Division of sustained collaboration and support between the Corps of Engineers and 7 Division to enhance operational effectiveness.
In his response, the GOC 7 Division, Brigadier General Unachukwu, attributed the major operational successes recorded by the Division to the professional contributions of Engineer troops, particularly in mitigating the threat posed by Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) across the operational areas.
“Our operational activities would not have been possible without the diligent efforts of the 47 Engineer Brigade,” the GOC said.
While commending the Corps of Engineers for their immense support, Brigadier General Unachukwu reiterated the Division’s commitment to continued cooperation with the Engineer Corps. He also solicited additional combat enablers to further enhance the Division’s mission objectives.
He added that 7 Division has continued to live up to expectations, noting that troops remain highly motivated and committed to the discharge of their duties in the Theatre of Operations.
