BREAKING: Heavy Gunshots, Many Feared Dead, Injured As Nigerian Air Force Helicopter Attack
At least two persons have been reported killed, while several others sustained gunshot injuries following an alleged aerial attack on Kurgi community in Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State, North-Central Nigeria.
Residents told reporters on Tuesday that a surveillance helicopter, believed to belong to the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), flew into the community on Sunday afternoon and hovered over the area for several minutes before opening fire.
Eyewitnesses said the gunshots hit residents who were going about their normal activities at the time of the incident. Women and children were reportedly among those affected by the gunfire.
The incident triggered panic in the community, forcing many residents to flee their homes to neighbouring communities, including Bangi town, in search of safety.
One of the residents, Sulaiman Sanusi, described the incident as “shocking and unprovoked,” and appealed to relevant authorities to immediately investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack. He also called for urgent medical assistance for those who sustained injuries.
“As people, we were not aware of any operation or threat that could justify such action. Innocent people were hit, and the community is now living in fear,” he said.
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official statement from the Nigerian Air Force or other security agencies regarding the incident.
