The Kebbi State Police Command has apprehended two individuals in connection with separate fatal stabbing incidents in Shanga and Zuru Local Government Areas.
Commissioner of Police Bello Sani described the cases as “tragic” and emphasized the importance of non-violent conflict resolution.
In a statement released on Friday, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, the police spokesperson, detailed the first incident, saying, “On December 31, 2024, at about 8:00 PM, police arrested Yunusa Haruna, 25, from Bakin Turu village in Shanga LGA, for allegedly stabbing his elder brother, Isiyaku Haruna, to death.
“Reports indicate the suspect used a sharp knife during a heated dispute with his brother, resulting in the victim’s death. Officers from Shanga Divisional Police Headquarters quickly responded and made the arrest.”
In a separate incident on January 8, 2025, CSP Abubakar revealed that Abubakar Umar, also 25, from Jarkasa in Zuru LGA, was taken into custody for allegedly stabbing Mohammed Bala in the head during a disagreement, which led to his immediate death.
“Umar is further accused of injuring Mohammed’s younger brother, Sama’ila Bala, during the confrontation. The prompt action of officers from the Zuru Divisional Police Headquarters led to his swift arrest,” Abubakar added.
Expressing his concern, Commissioner Sani urged residents to resolve disputes through lawful means and report conflicts to the appropriate authorities. He assured the public that a comprehensive investigation led by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) is underway and that the suspects will face prosecution upon its conclusion.
The Police Command reaffirmed its dedication to maintaining peace and urged citizens to provide credible information to support security efforts across the state.
