Lawmaker Ikwechegh Lands In Big Tr0uble For Assaulting Bolt Driver In Abuja
Human rights advocacy group, the Youth Rights Campaign (YRC), has demanded immediate arrest and prosecution of the House of Representatives member, Alex Mascot Ikwechegh, for brutally assaulting a Bolt driver in Abuja.
The group, in a reaction to the report of how Ikwechegh assaulted the Bolt driver and threatened to “make him disappear from Nigeria” described the lawmaker as a disgrace.
The YRC, which made the call through its National Secretary, Francis Nwapa, also called for a recall of the lawmaker by his Aba North and South Federal Constituency of Abia State.
Nwapa in a post on X said, “@Alex Ikewechegh Mascot the Abia House of Rep. Member Who slapped, arrested a bolt driver for no reason.
“These oppressors at all levels across tribe, religion & gender must be tamed. We Demand his arrest, prosecution & recall by constituency. He’s a disgrace & not a resemblance of.”
Ibom Focus earlier reported that in a viral video making the rounds on social media, Ikwechegh was captured brutalising an e-hailing taxi driver who went to his (the lawmaker) residence in Abuja for delivery.
Ikwechegh repeatedly slapped the driver and hurled insults at him for asking him to come to his car to collect what he (the driver) was there to deliver.
Ikwechegh also threatened to make the driver disappear from Nigeria, saying nothing would happen if he did, even if the driver called the Inspector General of Police.
The lawmaker refused to pay the driver and boasted that he is a member of the House of Representatives. He broke the driver’s phone and tore his clothes for “disrespecting him”.
He also threatened to beat the driver and lock him in his generator house to make him suffer.
