Lady, Boyfriend Fakes Kidnap To Get N2Million Ransom From Parents
The Delta State Police Command has apprehended a 21-year-old woman, Princess Okolie, and her boyfriend for orchestrating a fake kidnapping in a bid to extort N2 million from her parents.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Edafe Bright, disclosed that on January 2, 2025, Mrs. Okolie Joy, the suspect’s mother, filed a complaint after her daughter left home on December 30, 2024, and failed to return.
Mrs Okolie revealed that the following day, she received a distressing phone call claiming her daughter had been abducted, with the alleged kidnappers demanding a ransom of N2 million for her release.
Acting on the complaint, police operatives launched an investigation, which led to the discovery that Princess had faked her abduction in collaboration with her boyfriend.
However, the pair were arrested and taken into police custody.
The statement read, ‘’The Commissioner of Police CP Olufemi Abaniwonda immediately directed the command’s special Anti-kidnapping and cyber-crime squad to ensure that the victim was rescued unhurt and the suspect arrested.
“The commander of special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber-Crime Squad CSP Labe Joseph detailed operatives who embarked on an intelligence-led investigation.”
Edafe noted that the other suspect, Prince Atigbi, was arrested after collecting a ransom of two million naira.
“Upon the arrest of the suspect, he stated that he was not an actual kidnapper but was playing the script of his girlfriend Princess Okolie,” he said.
Edafe said the girl was arrested, and she said that she faked her kidnap so that they could get money from her parents.
“Both suspects are in custody, the ransom money recovered and the investigation is ongoing.
“The Commissioner of Police urges parents and guardians to take the upbringing of their children seriously and in the ways of God so that when they grow up, they won’t be a problem to their parents and society,” Edafe added.
