Kidnappers Who Abducted House Member Arrested After Collecting N30m Ransom
Information reaching us that, Nine suspected criminals responsible for the abduction of Honourable Mohammed Bashir Bape, Member, Taraba State House of Assembly in December 2020 have been arrested by Police operatives.
The Force Spokesperson, Frank Mba, made the disclosure in a statement while parading the suspects at the Police headquarters in Abuja, on Thursday.
It was learnt that the suspects were picked up at their various hideouts in Taraba and Plateau States following an intense search by the Police team for the perpetrators of the crime.
The suspects identities were given as Yusuf Abubakar, Muntari Umar, Ahmadu Dahiru, Ali Alhaji Wurungo, Buhari Nuhu, Mohd Garba, Yusuf Jibrillah, Adamu Ahmadu and one Idi Suleiman.
According to Frank Mba, “investigations by the Police team revealed that the suspects are members of a notorious armed robbery and kidnapping syndicate that specializes in terrorizing innocent citizens in the North-Central and North East States particularly in Plateau and Taraba States.”
He said that Police investigation uncovered how the plot was carried out, and the role which each person played as well as how the money, the sum of 30 million ransom was shared among themselves.
He said that investigation is still ongoing and that when it is completed, the men will be arraigned in court.
Frank Mba stated that the operatives of the FIB, Intelligence Response Team and Special Tactical Squad of the Force attached to the Operation Puff Adder II have arrested 48 criminal suspects, including 47 male and one female.
He said they were arrested for their involvement and indictment in cases of armed robbery, kidnapping, unlawful possession of firearms, cybercrime and financial fraud and other heinous crimes in some parts of the country.
He said that the Police recovered 41 prohibited firearms, including 14 Ak-47 rifles, 10 Ak-47 magazines, 58 live cartridges, 4 Ak-47 live ammunition, 4 Pos machines, 2 laptop computers, 18 mobile phones, Internet Modem and 8 atm cards from the suspects after a carrying out the operation he described as successful.
He said the suspects will be interrogated by Police and if found guilty, they will face jail time.
