Tension In Abuja As Body Of Kidnap Victim Shot By Abductors Recovered
The body of Mrs Esther Adesiyan, who was killed following her abduction alongside family members, has been retrieved from a mortuary in Kubwa, Abuja.
Mrs Adesiyan was kidnapped along with her husband, Mr. Michael Akinropo Adesiyan, her son and brother-in-law during a recent attack by kidnappers on their home in the Chikakore community, Kubwa, in the Bwari Council Area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
It was learned that Mrs Adesiyan was shot dead by the kidnappers in a forest in Niger State.
It was on Tuesday reported that one of the five residents kidnapped in the Chikakore community had been found dead.
According to a source, the victim’s body was discovered by the roadside in Niger State during a rescue operation.
However, a source said on Wednesday that the victim is Mrs Adesiyan, who was reportedly in her late 40s.
She was reportedly shot in the chest by her abductors.
Sources suggest she was killed after being unable to continue walking or follow the kidnappers’ orders.
“Her body has been retrieved now in Kubwa mortuary,” a family source told SaharaReporters.
“It has been more than 48 hours, and we have not heard from the kidnappers. We are all worried.”
The abduction occurred late Sunday night when gunmen stormed the Health Centre extension area of Chikakore around 11 p.m.
During the attack, a woman was also injured after being struck on the head with a gun and was later rushed to the hospital.
Residents lamented the slow response from security operatives, stating that police officers from the Byzahin Division arrived over an hour after the attackers had escaped.
“The bandits have resumed attacks in Chikakore. We need a police division here in this community. We have land and a five-bedroom apartment ready to accommodate them, but there has been no deployment,” a resident said a few hours after the attack.
The FCT Police Command confirmed the incident on Monday, launching an investigation and a search-and-rescue operation. However, while residents insist that five people were abducted, police reports claim only four victims were taken.
FCT Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, stated that seven suspects, armed with machetes and sticks, deceived the victims into opening their gate before attacking them.
“The suspects abducted the victim and three members of his family while also injuring a neighbour who intervened. The injured victim was rushed to Kubwa General Hospital for treatment,” she added.
The police assured residents that efforts were ongoing to rescue the remaining hostages and capture the perpetrators. Authorities urged the public to remain calm and provide any information that could aid the operation.
