A man accused of kidnapping, raping and murdering a job seeker in Akwa Ibom State has confessed to the crime, police say.
The suspect, Uduak Frank Akpan on Thursday lured Miss Iniubong Umoren to his house in the guise of giving her a job but ended up sexually and physically assaulting her which led to her death, police said in a statement.

The deceased has been exhumed and deposited at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital (UUTH) for autopsy.
When fingers pointed at Uduak Akpan following the disappearance of the graduate of Philosophy from the University of Uyo, who was awaiting mobilisation for the compulsory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), the suspect took to Facebook to deny the allegations.
He however admitted that he did invite her for a job interview but said he knew nothing about the whereabouts of Iniubong who had been marketing skin products while looking for a full-time job.
Akwa Ibom State Police spokesman SP Odiko MacDon said that Akpan – widely believed to be a cousin to Uruan Local Government Chairman Hon. Iniobong Ekpeyong – confessed to the politician how he killed the job seeker, a native of Oruk Anam, before fleeing to Calabar in Cross River.

MacDon stressed that the suspect, an indigene of Uruan, was never at anytime handed over to the Police by anyone
The police spokesman said a report of her disappearance was received on Friday, 30 April 2021.
He said: “Following available leads, Men of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad of the Command, led by Csp CSP Inengiye IGOSI, consolidated on the initial great progress made by the DPO Uruan, SP Samuel Ezeugo and arrested the perpetrator…”

MacDon said the suspect “is a confessed serial rapist who has owned up to the raping of other victims”.
“He will be charged to court at the conclusion of investigation.”
MacDon also said the Commissioner of Police, CP Amiengheme Andrew “has called on youths and job seekers to be wary of the activities of scammers and other men of the underworld”.
He stated that CP Andrew has appreciated the efforts of the social media, family and other fighters of injustice, adding that “he has condoled with the family and friends of the deceased”.
