EXCLUSIVE: Is El-Rufai Finally Dumped APC?
Former Kaduna State Governor and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nasir El-Rufai has paid a visit to an ex-military Head of State, Yakubu Gowon.
The meeting took place a few days after he met with leaders of the Social Democratic Party, (SDP) for the second time and has sparked further speculations on his defection plan from the ruling party.
Ibom Focus had also reported how Nasir El-Rufai, was again seen in another crucial meeting with the stakeholders of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) last week.
The meeting was seen in viral photographs and a video further fuelled speculation about El-Rufai’s future political plans.
The former Kaduna Governor reportedly attended the meeting at the Abuja residence of Senator Abubakar Gada, alongside SDP chairman Shehu Musa Gabam and other party chieftains.
It was learnt that the move was made towards strengthening his political affiliations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Also, a former spokesperson for the Atiku/Okowa Presidential Campaign Organisation, Daniel Bwala, said the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 Presidential Election, Peter Obi, was planning to leave the Labour Party and join El-Rufai in the SDP.
Bwala, who made the allegation in a post on his X handle, said Obi was planning to leave the Labour Party following the current crisis in the party with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) threatening to take over the party.
Obi, a former Governor of Anambra State in the Southeast region, joined the Labour Party in May 2023 in the buildup to the 2023 general elections following his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Bwala, a member of the PDP who has declared support for President Bola Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), wrote on his X handle, “Peter Obi @PeterObi allegedly planning to unite with El-rufai @elrufai in Social Democratic Party as Nigerian Labour Congress set to take ownership and custody of their political party, the @NgLabour.”
