Dino Melaye Set To Dump PDP, Says National Chairman Have Destroyed PDP
Dino Melaye, A former Kogi West senator, has accused the acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Iliya Damagum, Samuel Anyanwu, and Umar Bature of destroying the party.
Damagum became the acting chairman of Nigeria’s opposition party on 28 March 2023 following a court order restraining Iyorchia Ayu from parading himself as the national chairman.
Mr Ayu, a former senate president, had earlier been suspended by his ward in Benue State.
In a post via his X handle on Saturday, Melaye alleged that Damagum and the two other national leaders had irredeemably destroyed PDP.
He added that the opposition party had been commercialised and privatised.
“End of the road for PDP as Damagum, Bature and Anyanwu irredeemably destroyed the party. We will talk about the commercialisation and privatisation of PDP. PDP is now once upon a time,” he said.
It was reported on May 8 that a Federal High Court in Abuja restrained the Peoples Democratic Party from removing Ambassador Umar Illiya Damagum as the party’s national chairman.
The order was given by the court after hearing an ex parte motion filed by Umar El-Gash Maina and Zanna Mustapha Gaddama.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), National Working Committee (NWC) of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), National Executive Committee (NEC) of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Board of Trustees (BOT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were listed as the respondents in the motion.
