Fresh Crisis Rocks Nigerian Police As IG Egbetokun Deploys New Personnel To Replace Retired Officers.
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun has ordered the deployment and replacement of personnel to take over from officers accused of forgery, age falsification, and evading service regulations.
It was earlier exposed a list of approximately 467 Nigerian police officers implicated in falsifying their age and bypassing service regulations, including Simon Lough, SAN, and Benneth Igweh.
While hundreds of officers were embroiled in the scandal, some have quietly retired. On Saturday disclosed that IGP Egbetokun had mandated that senior police officers who refused to retire must face a disciplinary committee.
The police signal dated February 7, 2025 on Saturday, reads, “INGENPOL directs you warn and release AP. It was reported On Friday that a mutiny was brewing within the Nigeria Police Force, as over 200 affected senior officers were refusing to retire.
It was learnt that some of the officers had been serving for up to 44 years and that the development had led to tensions between Egbetokun and the Deputy Inspector General of the Federal Investigation Department, Dasuki Galandanchi.

Sources said that Galandanchi is seeking a two-year extension, citing the precedent set by Egbetokun, who was granted an extension despite being due for retirement last year.
In a police signal obtained by SaharaReporters on Tuesday, Egbetokun on February 9, 2025, ordered the replacement of some affected officers.

Earlier on Tuesday, SaharaReporters reported that the IGP Egbetokun had ordered the posting and redeployment of the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Gumel H. Mohammed to Zone 7, representing the Federal Capital Territory and Niger State, with immediate effect.
Mohammed replaces AIG Benneth Igweh.
Igweh on Thursday, September 12, 2024, assumed duty as the AIG of Police in charge of Zone 7.
