Heavy Crisis Rocks Delta, Police, Army Brutalise, Teargas Women, Youths Protesting ‘Doctored’ Senatorial Results
A combined team of armed military and police on Tuesday brutalised and teargassed some Delta State women and youths who were protesting what they called “doctored” results from the Warri South Local Government Area of the state in the just concluded Delta South senatorial district elections held on Saturday.
The women and youths who stormed the senatorial collation center in Oleh, headquarters of Isoko South council area accused the state governor and vice presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), former commissioner for Sports, Solomon Ogba, chairman of Delta State Oil Producing Areas Commission (DESOPADEC), Askia Ogieh and other PDP chieftains in Isoko nation of bribing officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) to manipulate the results from Warri South especially areas where elections did not take place and inflating figures where elections were held.
According to the protesting women and youths from the senatorial district, the All Progressives Congress, (APC) candidate Joel Onowakpo-Thomas won the election with very large margins but the governor in connivance with INEC officials decided to manipulate the results in order to give victory to the candidate of the PDP, Michael Diden popularly known as Ejele.
The women and youths who were wailing and chanting anti-Okowa songs warned Okowa and every Isoko son and daughter said to have been involved in the manipulation of the results to be prepared for the worst.
Seeing that the protest was gathering more momentum, the combined team of armed army and police personnel came out and started beating and teargas the women and youths said
One of the women who simply identified herself as Monica accused the former Delta State Commissioner for Sport, Solomon Ogba of allegedly conspiring in the manipulation of results of the Delta South senatorial district election to favour the PDP.
“Do you know Ogba said unless Joel Onowakpo-Thomas returns to the PDP, he will not see the light of the day?” Monica stated.
Also speaking during the protest, an APC chieftain in the state, Sebastine Agbefe, and Delta South APC youth leader, Ede Hyacinth, condemned the manipulation of the results, while insisting that the election was won by the APC candidate.
He alleged that the Electoral Officer in charge of Warri South was compromised by the PDP to doctor the results.
