Confusion As John Mahama Refers To Bola Tinubu As Ghanaian President
Ghana’s newly sworn-in President, John Mahama, mistakenly referred to Nigerian President, Bola Tinubu, as the President of Ghana during his inaugural speech on Wednesday.
The blunder occurred, while Mahama was addressing an enthusiastic crowd and dignitaries from across Africa gathered at the Independence Square in Accra, the state capital.
He said, “Honourable members of parliament, Excellency, the vice president of the Republic of Ghana, Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang. A leadership, the chief justice, your excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, president of the Federal Republic of Ghana, and special guest of honour for this occasion.
“Your excellencies, presidents, heads of government and development agencies, your excellency, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and former presidents, your excellency, doctor Mahmoudu Baumia, distinguished invited guests, ladies and gentlemen, my brothers and sisters, I wish you a good morning, and we give thanks.”
Mahama made history in the 2024 election by defeating incumbent Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia to reclaim the presidency.
The victory made him the first leader in Ghana’s history to be democratically elected for a non-consecutive second term.
