Drama As Aspirant Storms APC Headquarters, Demands Certificate Of Returns
Hon. Anamero Sunday Dekeri, one of the contestants claiming victory in Edo state’s All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary poll, stormed the party’s national headquarters in Abuja on Monday, February 19.
Dekeri urged that the National Working Committee (NWC), led by Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, grant him a Certificate of Returns as the winner of the state’s shadow election on February 17.
Arriving at Muhammadu Buhari House, the APC national secretariat on Blantyre Street in Abuja at 1:10 p.m., the governorship candidate formally presented a letter to the NWC through the National Chairman, requesting that the certificate be issued to him immediately.
Upon arriving at the secretariat, Dekeri, dressed in a white kaftan, went straight to the office of the national chairman and submitted the one-page letter.
The aspirant who spent less than 10 minutes later left the secretariat after submitting the letter.
A source close to the member of the House of Representatives for Etsako Federal Constituency said the one-page letter personally signed by him requested that the party’s highest administrative organ, the NWC should issue him with the certificate of returns, having polled the highest votes in the election.
Dekeri was returned as the winner of the Saturday APC primary by the local government returning officers for the 2024 Edo State APC governorship primary election.
Spokesman of the local government returning officers, Ojo Babatunde who announced the result on Saturday night said Dekeri polled a total number of 25,384 to defeat his closest rival Dennis Idahosa who scored 14,127 votes.
