A source said the two suspects, who worked in a cement factory in Okpella, in the Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State, hatched a plan to kidnap their supervisors, identified as Uche Dimgba and Ekuweme Chukweka.
The source said in order to carry out their plan, the duo contacted a man to link them with kidnappers in Kogi State.
However, the link man chickened out in the final moment and revealed the plan to soldiers guarding the company.
The source stated, “Bright and Ede had concluded a plan to kidnap the two senior officers working with them in the same company.
“Bright urged Ede to join the plan and help him secure the services of kidnappers in Kogi State to abduct Dimgba and Chukweka.
“The suspects then contacted a man that would take them to the kidnappers in Kogi State for the operation. But the middleman changed his mind in the final moment and revealed the plan to soldiers guarding the cement company, describing Dimgba and Chukwuka as generous and kind.”
The soldiers alerted the police to the plan. The detectives then asked the link man to play along with the two suspects.
After gathering enough evidence, the soldiers were said to have arrested the suspects 24 hours before the operation.
The men were handed over to the police and transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping and Cybercrime Unit of the police command.
The Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Kontongs Bello, confirmed the arrest of the suspects, adding that they would be charged to court at the conclusion of investigation.
