Bye-Bye To Yeye Boyfriend: Deep Regrets Trail Edo Past Council Chairmen
Can everyone ever be pleased? Attempting to please everybody is unachievable but in politics, you must endeavour to please your constituency, your fans, your close friends; they will win over the sceptics.
Earlier this month Edo State Governor, His Excellency Godwin Obaseki directed the 18 local government chairmen to hand over to the Head of Local Government Administration (HOLGA), in their respective councils.
The LGA chairmen were sworn-in on March 5, 2018, for a three-year tenure, following their victory at the local government polls conducted on March 3, 2018.
Since the exit of the local government chairmen, Edo residents have been reacting in different ways. While the local government council bosses who have a chance of reelection have been throwing parties and thanksgiving around town celebrating their success as council bosses the residents of the various councils are however on the opposite page with the ex-council bosses.
They are unpleased and have vowed to resist any attempt for the council bosses to come back under any guise whatsoever. According to them, it is bye-bye to YEYE BOYFRIEND. Them say na chairmen wey dey perform na go come back.
Here is a wrap of how respondents rated the past local government chairmen…
You know in those days Local Government chairmen are seen to often grade roads, asphalt some few, pay teachers, organise school competitions, organise some sports tournaments and arrange some recreational parks, you know activities were going on.
But today some local government councils are like graveyards while some others have been overgrown by weeds. Even keeping the local council secretariat clean is a problem for them.
A peek into the Urban Councils is nothing to write home about how much more the Rural councils were there is no incentive to even work.
Most of the local Government secretariats are joints for smoking Indian Hemp by the teeming unemployed youths waiting for government patronage.
Egor, Oredo, Orhionmwon, Uhunmwode these four local government councils mentioned as a matter of fact should be delisted if the council chairmen are to be judged by their performances in the past three years.
The only remarkable thing observed in Oredo is the garden in front of the council used for marriage registration. The council as the capital of the State has witnessed no single noticeable change in the past three years.
Aside from the increased rate of thuggery and local miscreants known in local parlance as Agberos the Local Council has not celebrated any milestone.
Egor local Government council is now a PENSIONABLE council, the council is no longer productive. The secondary school opposite the council, Uselu Secondary School is an eyesore and a recruitment ground for the local cultist.
Orhionmwon which happens to be an oil-producing local government would soon earn the status of an orphanage home if care is not taken. In no time palliatives would be offered to the council for it to meet its responsibilities.
Uhunmwode local government should be annexed to another local government to make it two in one maybe that way the Local Council can be able to meet up to its responsibilities.
In the kingdom of the blind, the one-eyed man is King, that is the case with Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area. The only council that is rated above average. The past local government chairman should be the only one allowed to celebrate his tenure.
The rest local government councils not mentioned are WIDOWS with all due apologies. You know in Africa widows are looked upon as an endangered species that needs special intervention in order to meet the responsibilities of the home because of the unfortunate demise of the husband.
This is just a summary of what we deduced from our respondents who have hailed the exit of the council chairmen, affirming it is good riddance to bad rubbish.
Meanwhile, investigations carried out discloses that the state Governor, Godwin Obaseki is not ready to conduct any election into the local government councils anytime soon.
The Governor says he is ready to reset the State Civil service for Optimal performance, which means political appointees should take backstage for now
