BREAKING: APC National Chairman, Ganduje To Resign
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga, has renewed efforts to oust the party’s National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, by formally demanding his resignation within seven days.
Zazzaga’s fresh push is coming on the heels of his failed attempt to oust Ganduje through a suit before a federal high court in Abuja. The suit was dismissed by Justice Inyang Ekwo on September 23 after court held that Zazzaga’s North Central APC Forum was not a legally recognised entity and, therefore, lacked the authority to file the suit. The judge also held that the forum had failed to exhaust the party’s internal dispute resolution mechanisms before approaching the court.
But Zazzaga in a fresh letter to Ganduje said this approach was meant to demonstrate the forum’s efforts to resolve the issue through legitimate and peaceful means.
Addressing journalists in Jos, Plateau State capital yesterday, Zazzaga stated that copies of the letter were also sent to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, House of Representatives Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, the National Working Committee (NWC), and the National Advisory Council of the APC.
He stressed that the seven-day ultimatum, starting from Monday, would expire next week, and failure to comply would prompt further legal action.
According to Zazzaga, they had applied various internal mechanisms and maintained communication with party officials, but Ganduje remained adamant in occupying the position, which, by party constitution, belongs to the North Central.
Zazzaga further pointed out that Ganduje is also facing trial on corruption charges in Kano State, a fact which, he said, further undermines the party’s credibility.
He called on Ganduje to resign immediately to restore internal democracy and honour the party’s zoning agreements. Alternatively, Zazzaga suggested that Ganduje step aside and allow a fact-finding committee to examine the issue in line with Article 21.3 of the APC Constitution.
