Power-Drunk Reps Member Alex Ikwechegh Blows Hot Again Over Bolt Driver Assaulting In Abuja
A member of House of Representatives, Mr Alex Mascot Ikwechegh has tendered an apology for brutalising an e-hailing taxi driver who went to his (the lawmaker) residence in Abuja for delivery.
A viral video on social media captured Alex Ikwechegh assaulting the Bolt driver.
Ikwechegh, who represents Aba North and South Federal Constituency of Abia State, repeatedly slapped the driver and hurled insults at him for asking him to come to his car to collect what he (the driver) was there to deliver.
Ikwechegh also threatened to make the driver disappear from Nigeria, saying nothing would happen if he did, even if the driver called the Inspector General of Police.
The lawmaker also refused to pay the driver and boasted that he is a member of the House of Representatives. He broke the driver’s phone and tore his clothes for “disrespecting him”.
He also threatened to beat the driver and lock him in his generator house to make him suffer.
Speaking in a video uploaded by blogger Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as Very Dark Man, on Monday, the assaulted driver narrated how Nigeria Police Force personnel sided with the lawmaker without proper investigation.
He said he was detained for over two hours while the lawmaker was allowed to go because he is a politician.
During plenary session on Tuesday, he has realised that it was a mistake to have assaulted the driver.
He said: “Mr Speaker, Honourable colleagues, I just want to state once again that I am human even though things were said and those things, I regret.
“I apologise to all Nigerians regardless of the provocation, there should be no reason why I should react in that form. I want to use this opportunity to appeal to all Nigerians, let us let what has happened remain in the past and let us forge forward.”
