The Abuja based Benue Activist and former staff of Sazak Acre Bilogue construction company, Mr. Paul Gabriel Edoh has written to the management and owners of the indigenous company, demanding for an immediate disbursement of his accrued benefits as stated in the 3rd paragraph of the disengagement letter signed and served by the Human resource manager of the company, Mr.Terrence Lawani 31st January 2024.
Mr. Paul Gabriel Edoh who worked in the Procurement, Store and inventory department of the company since March 2023, gave a seven-day ultimatum to the Management of the company and owners to pay him his benefits after an expired 6 months contract that was stated in his disengagement letter to prevent litigation.
This was contained in a letter dated 4th April, 2024, written on his behalf by his lawyer, Abdul Karimu snr, ESQ, of Abdul Karimu & Co. Solicitors, addressed to the Directors of the company and the Human resource
Manager, which acknowledged copy was made available to newsmen in Abuja on Friday.
Details of Paul’s disengagement was not revealed by his lawyer but Intelligence report by our source from the Jahi office has it that, few management decisions were taken in the past without the owners of the company knowing and these unlawfully disengaged staffs are mostly contract staff who’s contract were not renewed but we’re made to work for extra months while some have spent years in the company working without being made a full staff of the company but with a promise of constant renewal but the HR who was alleged to always replace these people with close associates and family relatives who’s salaries triple already long existing staffs of the company working in the field and this has been a norm ongoing for some time now without the consent of the three Directors of the company.
while another source has it that; the Human resource manager and his team have in the past raised flimsy excuses without proper investigation to have some staff laid off and have them replaced by close friends and family members after mandating them to work against contract terms.
This, includes the company’s truck drivers who were laid off due to unproven allegations of diesel theft brought before them by the head of Procurement Mr. Sunday Lyams Ujah.
However, counsel for Paul Gabriel Edoh, who is taking up the case, noted that; “The Nigeria laws have long outlawed the job slavery system has been practiced by some of this upcoming indigenous company and if the needful is not done on time, the law will take it full course.
“ And Based on the aforesaid, we demand in very clear and unequivocal terms, the immediate reimbursement of the said benefits stated by one of the company’s top decision-makers and a high-profile manager in the company within seven days from the receipt of this letter dated 4th April 2024.
“Failure to comply with our client’s demand. we will have no hesitation in seeking redress in the court of law for the pursuance of our client’s right even though he has never caused the company any injury nor material damage nor grossly offended the laydown rules of the company to warrant such an inhuman treatment from the company and it’s Human resource management .”
