After Complaining About Bad Roads Abiodun Gave Me N2m: Portable Exposes
Singer Habeeb Okikiola, professionally known as Portable, has disclosed that Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun state paid him N2 million after complaining about the bad road networks across the state.
In a viral video on social media, the 30-year-old musician said, “Oga (Dapo Abiodun) ti te two million naira, won ni Dapo ni gbogbo ona ni oun ma se,” which translates to “the boss has sent two million naira and has promised to repair every road.”
Mr Abiodun has faced heavy criticism on social media over the bad state of several major roads across the state, with many netizens calling them “death traps”.
When reached out to Mr Abiodun and the Secretary to the State Government, Tokunbo Talabi, for comments on Portable’s statement via WhatsApp. While the messages have been successfully delivered, neither has responded to the request as of the time of filing this report.
Following the series of online callouts by netizens, Mr Abiodun has come out to plead with people of the state to be patient with the government during an on-the-spot assessment of roads in the Ifo Local Government Area on Monday.
“I want to implore our people to be patient with us. We cannot reconstruct all the bad roads in three years,” the governor said. “In fact, no administration can reconstruct all the roads in Ogun State, not even in 8 years,” he added.
“When I assumed office on the 29th of May, 2019, the deficit that we met on assumption of office was such that we began to wonder what the previous administration was doing.”
