Akwa Ibom University Rejects Female Registrar
Information reaching Ibom Focus that Akwa Ibom University Rejects Female Registrar
Concerned staff of the Akwa Ibom State University have rejected the appointment of Ebi Eno-Ibanga as the Registrar of the institution. Mrs Ebi Eno-Ibanga is the wife of the immediate past Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof Eno Ibanga. Prof Ibanga is now the Commissioner for Works in Akwa Ibom State.
In a petition addressed to the Chairman of the governing council of Akwa Ibom State University, the concerned staff of the institution say Mrs Ibanga is deficient in the basic academic qualifications for the office of Registrar which she aspires to.
The concerned staff who wrote the petition under anonymity (Anonymous Indigenes of Akwa Ibom) for fear of being witch hunted prayed the Chairman of the Governing Council of the school to look into the substance of their petition as the issues are worthy of investigation.
“We make bold to say that Dr. Ebi G. Eno-Ibanga did not attend any primary school in Nigeria or elsewhere and as such does not possess the foundational academic credential known as the First School Leaving Certificate as there is no such academic certificate in her file. The said Dr. Ebi G. Eno-Ibanga fully conscious of her deficiency also confirmed same in her curriculum vitae which we found. Sir, a copy of the Governing Council’s advertisement in the Punch newspaper of July 7th 2021 reveals clearly that anyone applying to fill the vacant office of Registrar, must possess a First School Leaving Certificate. Will this be swept under the carpet? Akwa Ibom people are keenly watching and will resist any attempt to impose an academically deficient fellow on the university”, the petition reads in part.

“Her case is not different from that of the Bayelsa Deputy Governor-elect. In her file, is a West African Examinations Council’s Certificate of December 1981. The bearer of the said certificate is Odiakosa Gloria. Again, there is another certificate from the same Examination body for June 1983 with the name Odiakosa Clara Okwuanuzo. Realizing the inconsistencies, one Odiakosa Okwanuzo Gloria proceeded to the registry of the Lagos State Magistrate Court to depose an affidavit for the purpose of saying Clara is not part of her name but Gloria is. This appeared (at least in the mind of the said Odiakosa Okwuanuzo Gloria), to have settled the nagging issue.
“The question now is: Is there any relationship between Odiakosa Okwuanuzo Gloria and the aspirant to the office of Registrar of the Akwa Ibom State University? Said differently, does the names Odiakosa Okwuanuzo Gloria and Ebi G. Eno-Ibanga belong to one and the same person? This is pertinent to be resolved because from the certificate of birth issued as way back as 19sixtyfive to the WAEC certificate of 1983 (referenced above) there was never any mention of the name EBI.
“While the question still lingers as to the personality being screened, we wish to register our total displeasure in the screening process, particularly as it relates to the position of the Registrar. We need not state the obvious that this being an academic institution which is expected to judge students as being worthy in both learning and character, it implies therefore, that it is our duty to live by example so as to positively affect the conduct of these students in the future”, the petition states further.
